Words for the Beginning Advent Theme
We worship a God who was and is making all things new. Christ’s birth offered a beautiful new
beginning for the Mary, Joseph, shepherds and Magi – all the while, King Herod tried to bring
the story to an end. As we navigate our endings and beginnings, we need words as reminders to
help keep us on track. This Advent we will be looking into those Words for the Beginning – You
are a Blessing, We can’t go Alone, Do the Good that is Yours to Do, Hope is Worth the Risk, Love
knows Your Name, and The Road isn’t Straight.
Please join us on this journey through this season, and may you find words for belovedness and
hope. For no matter what you are facing, no matter what this new day brings, love is your
beginning.
Advent Study
Advent is a season of endings and beginnings. As the calendar year closes, a new church year
begins. Christ’s birth ushers us into new ways of living and loving as the world spins madly on.
We need words that can feel like steady ground, like a path for our feet as we step into the
unknown. We need words to remind us of the fundamental truths of our faith. So, you are invited
to an Advent Study on Words for the Beginning. We will gather Thursdays at 4pm, December 5
through January 2, in the conference room. Devotional books will be made available

CHANCEL CHOIR Time to begin a new year of singing at FUMC! Our choir first rehearsal will be Wednesday, September 11, 3:30 p.m. in the Sanctuary. We will have some new pieces to learn as well as recall some favorites of the Choir. If you love to sing, we’d love to see you! We sing most Sundays at 9 a.m. and warm up in the Choir Room around 8:30 a.m. We can always use more voices!

Thank you to everyone who helps keep the First UM Food Pantry stocked and ready to help the next needy neighbor!  Many of you specifically fill the Little Food Pantry with goodies; others bring monetary donations so we can purchase items as needed.  Both ways work great!  Just a reminder:  As we move into the winter season we need to make sure items can endure the freezing season.  Again, our thanks!
